Elevated Moon: an evolution of art and music that took place over several years between myself and flautist, reed player and percussionist JD Parran. This began with mutual appreciation for each other's work until a collaboration was the only thing that made sense!

What is an Elevated Moon? A planet is said to be elevated when it is either culminating in the sky, or high above the horizon, around 30 degrees from each side of the Midheaven, or the highest point in the sky. A star can also be the elevated body. Our first perfornance had the Moon in elevation, and we used that to define who we were: when the Moon is elevated the emotional element is strong, it is a time that feelings can be generated, which can have direct responses from listeners and viewers.

JD PARRAN AS THE ELEVATED MOON

JD is wearing a cape that I designed and seamstress Barbara Drecker executed. The print is silkscreen on satin. The tapestries in the background were originally used in SYNERGY Sight and Sound performances in collaborations with musician and composer Saco Yasuma, for her Migration Suite; the motif for the tapestries is titled Phoenixes to the Sun.

Astrologos, a motif that was originally designed to signify celestial concepts that are used in astrology and astronomy. As I worked in different materials going from paper, plastic, acrylic on plastic, to copper foil, and finally to galvanized metal, which is highly resonant, a percussive instrument came out of it; follow the madness!!

In the second Elevated Moon performance at the beginning the Moon was Elevated, then Mars became evelvated. We decided that since music and motion will manifest the planets' energies naturally, why not create costumes and energies with the audience that correspond with them? JD stayed with the Moon concept, and in the second phase of the performance, when Mars began to culminate, I changed from my blue costume and grey mask for the Moon, to a red top and mask for Mars. I also used the Astrologo Axes, which is very Mars-like.
